Smooth Flow of Goods
Even at Peak Times
A leading Indian E-commerce company uses a Phoenix Mecano conveyor and sorting system at its distribution center. It operates reliably even on peak days like Diwali festive sales.
The product
Linear transport systems are primarily used to move a variety of goods within a company. Systems manufactured and assembled by Phoenix Mecano India are always designed to meet the customer’s specific needs. In the case of the fulfilment center for a leading Indian e-retail company, the system is a 1,100-meter-long conveyor belt that runs over two floors and can move goods weighing up to 50 kg. In addition to the conveyor belt, the system also included the design of the workstations and the assembly of the trolleys and racks. The system was fully equipped and installed with sensors, diverters, and computerized control circuits.
The application
The distribution center covers an area of 80,000 square meters. Products from a large number of suppliers are delivered here and must first be checked against the ordered quantities and quality requirements. The new system sorts the products and automatically diverts mobile phones, electrical appliances and apparel onto the designated conveyor belts. Further steps include portioning, picking, labelling, packaging, and the entire preparation for shipment. Up to 600,000 shipments a day are handled at the distribution center at peak times such as the festive sales around Diwali.
“Phoenix Mecano was engaged right from the conceptualization of this highly customized intra-logistics concept and delivered the system to the site 1,200 kms from its Indian office. Within one month of installation, the system performed without any interruption during India’s e-commerce black Friday sale.”

The belt conveyors are bidirectional which offers the flexibility to transfer material in both directions i.e from ground floor to first floor and vice versa. The customer was supported through to successful commissioning by a team of specialists from handling robotics, hardware, software development and process engineering.
