Stein am Rhein/Kloten, 26 May 2011. Phoenix Mecano AG, a leading technology company active in the production of enclosures and technical components, is to acquire all shares in Platthaus GmbH with effect from 1 June 2011. Based in Alsdorf, Germany, Platthaus is a long-established and well-positioned company that manufactures power quality products such as air-core transformers, filters and chokes for grid feed-in, used primarily in the renewable energy and innovative drive and control technology markets. With this strategic acquisition, Phoenix Mecano is expanding its technology portfolio in the field of chokes and transformers for solar inverters and creating access to the market in central inverters used in large photovoltaic systems.
At the same time, Platthaus technology also offers the potential to enter the market for wind-power chokes and transformers within the medium term. Founded in 1912, the company currently employs 54 staff and generated gross sales of approximately €10 million in 2010. The parties have chosen not to disclose the purchase price. Phoenix Mecano is already active in the production of photovoltaic chokes and transformers via its subsidiaries Datatel, Götz-Udo Hartmann and Lohse and will continue to run Platthaus as an independent company within the Phoenix Mecano Group. This acquisition is expected to make a positive profit contribution within two years.
